At our first meeting, we'll say hello and establish the group rules. We'll talk about the basics of the model, including the three types of parts we typically encounter in sessions, and introduce the concept of Self energy. You'll be invited to practice facilitating the connection between the Self and the parts.
Topics for the following Week 1 will include: Working with protectors, the therapist's parts, exploring your own system (parts map), shedding exiles, and introducing the model to new clients, as well as introducing the model to existing clients. You'll be invited to participate in live demonstrations followed by Q&A. You will be invited to do your own work in the demonstrations; an IFS therapist needs to know his or her own system, and this cannot be achieved by role-playing.
Throughout the course, the emphasis will be on speaking for, not from, your parts.
A one-hour lecture reinforcing the teaching points of each didactic session will be e-mailed to participants.
The course takes place twice a year, in September and January, with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 16 participants.
Training times will be determined by participants; options are 9 a.m. to noon EST, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. EST or 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. EST on Tuesday or Wednesday.
It is open to social workers, therapists, counselors, coaches and other mental health professionals.
To get the most out of this course, it's best to work one-to-one with people in a professional setting.
The cost of the entire 4-month course is 1,800 USD and must be paid in advance - no refunds will be made.
Each 3-hour teaching/practice session will be recorded and the recordings will be made available to participants only, as will the didactic teachings and focus groups. If you are unable to attend a day, you will receive a recording of the session.
