Testimonial from therapist Mercedes Schaffter.
My name is Mercedes Schaffter and I've been running a therapeutic practice for a dozen years.
I have used different tools in my practice:
Cellular Analysis and Reinformation, which is an energetic medicine, homeopathy and nutrition (Kousmine).
I trained as a coach 4 years ago, and that's when my vision of the therapist-patient relationship began to change.
Indeed, I realized that I was sometimes tired after only one or two consultations; that I would get discouraged if a homeopathic remedy didn't work; or that, on the contrary, I would exult if, thanks to what I had advised or prescribed, the person got better. Something deep inside me told me I was taking my work too personally.
In 2012 I discovered the IFS and it radically transformed my practice.
During my training, I met my inner system and some of my parts.
Then the work on myself continued, there was more and more clarity and I discovered something extremely important as a therapist, I realized that I had been accompanying people for parts.
Especially since one in particular, the Rescuer part, the part that wants to help and save. In fact, I think it's probably the reason I became a therapist in the first place!
She always felt she had a mission and wanted to do something to help others.
In fact, she wasn't the only one involved in my practice, with several of her girlfriends lending a hand:
- the one who thought she was responsible for the other (his health, well-being, etc.)
- the one who never wanted to disappoint
- the one who was afraid of betraying the trust the patient had placed in me, if the results didn't follow.
It was a revelation, especially when I understood their intention.
For these parts, helping, carrying, being there for others, gave meaning to my life. I EXISTED!
When I was able to go and meet them, from my Self, let them experience my presence, let them discover that I existed even without helping the other person, it was a liberation.
A liberation for them, as they were tired of doing this work for so many years, and a liberation for me.
Since this awareness and the work I've done with these parts, my relationship with others has changed. In my private life, but above all in my professional accompaniment.
Today, my relationship with customers is based on a state of calm and trust.
Of course, it would be presumptuous to say that these saving parts are no longer present in my work (with my clients), but when they are there, I become aware of them and this allows me to talk to them, put them aside during the session and take a moment with them afterwards, if necessary.
From this state, known as Self, I look at the other person and see all the resources they have. I realize that the greatest gift I can give him is to leave him in charge of his own life!
