IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapy is a psychotherapy and support model developed by R. Schwartz, who discovered a new way of reducing psychic conflicts. The patient is led to work on his or her belief and emotional systems, carried by sub-personalities called "parts", which may remain fixed following an experience or trauma. IFS is one of a number of psychotherapeutic approaches that bring into play the brain's capacity for neuroplasticity.

The originality of this approach lies in (re)creating an inner dialogue between the patient's parts, as well as between his parts and his "Self", the central instance of the psyche, which has the resources to clarify, welcome and compassionately support all the inner aspects of his psyche. This approach privileges and values the patient's intuitive wisdom as a guide to resolving his or her problems.

It also relies on a very human and empathetic collaboration between the therapist's Self and the patient's Self.

The ultimate aim of therapeutic work is to restore "Self leadership", a state in which psychic life is harmoniously guided by the Self. This gradually enables the person to relieve the painful burdens and burdens carried by his or her parts, and to regain lasting inner peace and a fluid, dynamic psychic balance.

This model has many applications

in the conventional fields of psychotherapy, psychosomatics, personal accompaniment and development, institutional and organizational life, social and family life...
