TRAINER
Flint Sparks
Flint has over thirty years' experience in the practice and teaching of psychotherapy. Also a Zen master, he leads retreats in the U.S. and Europe. His academic background includes degrees in both biology and psychology. In addition, he has extensive post-doctoral training in Mindfulness-based psychotherapy and group therapy, with particular training in the Hakomi and IFS methods. He began his Zen training at the San Francisco Zen Center, then continued it at the Austin Zen Center, which he founded and helped develop. He currently teaches at Appamada, the Zen practice and research center in Austin, Texas. He most recently co-directed a workshop with Richard Schwartz on "Was Buddha an IFS Therapist?"
"Flint Sparks embodies a remarkable blend of spiritual and clinical wisdom. He has developed a brilliant synthesis of Zen and IFS that enriches both meditation and therapy. He has also created a form of questioning that helps people quickly separate from their parts and access the Self. I highly recommend his workshops and retreats." (Richard Schwartz).
PROGRAM
IFS and Buddhist Spirituality
Description :
The IFS model has been shown to be an extremely effective method of psychotherapy, as well as a powerful support for spiritual development. This three-day training will focus on the ways in which the IFS model, and Buddhist practices in particular, can be combined to enable participants to open up to greater psychic interiority, become more aware of the conditioning of their parts, and deepen their full self-acceptance. IFS highlights the multiplicity of our minds and ways of seeing ourselves and the world. It also suggests the existence of a universal Self within which all these parts are born and develop. The aim of IFS is to help all the parts shed their burdens and function more freely and creatively within this expanded Self. This process is easily accessible to clients, and is effective without focusing on pathologies or long-term treatment. Buddhist practices help develop mindfulness and attentive presence to what emerges in our minds. Participants will have the opportunity to cultivate mindfulness, to invite all their parts into an intimate dialogue, to learn how to unleash the potential of this deep and sacred dialogue, and to taste the liberated intimacy that results from using these two methods: IFS and mindfulness. This is one of the most profound ways for Self energy to be embodied and expressed.
